Recent Ever Young Meetings

26th November 2015 - Farming at P.O.W. Camp No 26 - Damn Delicious

At their meeting in Thankerton Hall Cairngryffe Everyoung enjoyed an interesting and humorous presentation from local farmer Michael Shannon of Damn Delicious. Michael's natural Irish wit complemented a fascinating insight into his new farming techniques and the development of his retail outlet now based at Thankerton Camp Farm. The twenty minutes of questions which followed showed the interest the audience had taken in the presentation. Many thanks to Michael. December sees our Christmas Lunch at the Cornhill House Hotel on 10th December and in January we have Jack Meikle on the 14th with a talk on Orkney and a Burns Supper on the 28th with entertainers from Forth as well as guests from Carnwath Evergreen. 12th November 2015 - What the Railways Did For Us

Jim Watt from Biggar was the Speaker at our meeting and gave a fascinating presentation on 'What the Railways Did For Us'. Jim shared his lifetime interest in the development of the railways over the years 1840 - 1918 which amongst many other things led to the standardisation of time throughout the UK as Railway Time which eventually became GMT in 1884 and the start of 'package holidays'. .
Our next meeting will be held in Thankerton Hall on Thursday, 26th November, at 2pm when the Speaker will be Michael Shannon from Damn Delicious talking about his farming methods at Thankerton Camp Farm. 22nd October 2015 - Trip to Vermont, Boston and Cape Cod

The group met to enjoy an interesting and informative presentation by Dr Sinclair Scott on his 'Trip to Vermont, Boston and Cape Cod'. Thanks to Dr Scott for taking the time to come and entertain us. Our speakers for November will be Jim Watt, from Biggar, on the 12th talking about 'What the Railways did for us' and on the 26th we have well-known local farmer and butcher Michael Shannon talking about 'Damn Delicious'. We look forward to seeing everyone at Thankerton Hall on those dates, for a 2pm start. New members always welcome.

8th October 2015 - Holyrood, the Highland Show and the Home Front

A good turnout opened the season in the company of our very able speaker, Mr James Warnock M.B.E., from Sandilands. James treated us to an informative and humourous talk covering his recent visit to Buckingham Palace and his voluntary work as a Director of the Royal Highland Show in educating schoolchildren about the work that goes on around the farm. The Chairman thanked James for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and speak to us. Our next meeting is on Thursday, 22nd October when Dr Sinclair Scott from Douglas will speak on his trip to Vermont, Boston and Cape Cod. Everyone is welcome to join us in Thankerton Hall at 2pm.

23rd April 2015 - Sherlock Holmes

At this,the last meeting of the season, we had a very interesting and enjoyable talk from Bill Love on Sherlock Holmes.  The new President of the club is Jack Meikle, the new Secretary is Charlie Todd and we welcome Mrs Carol Gardiner onto the committee.  The Club will restart in October 2015

9th April 2015 - South Africa

The speaker was Duncan Close with a very enjoyable talk and film show on the time he spent in South Africa.  The photographs showed many famous buildings and included a visit to an orphanage.   The next (and last of the season) meeting will feature a talk from Bill Love on Sherlock Holmes.
